Robert Apple has worked in the horticulture industry for over 20 years. His horticulture related experiences began in the growing field where he simultaneously managed two large nurseries that delivered product to five retail outlet stores in Ocala, Florida. Robert then moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he started and ran Applesway, a landscape design and installation company. Over time Robert and a few of his former clients decided he needed a break from the installation side. He then became a personal gardener to these select clients.
James McIntyre is an avid plant enthusiast who has a passion and love of both plant collection and pond building. James recently left the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (where he taught Deaf students for thirteen years) to assist Robert with the landscape company they started in Jacksonville, Florida. Upon both of their visiting and seeing the potential this beautiful piece of property and area holds, Robert and James decided to relocate to assist Rick and Tiny in all aspects of fulfilling the vision Rick and Tiny had of revitalizing this wonderful corner.
The grounds for the restaurant and Inn will be turned into showcase gardens for Robert and James' new operation, which will be known as Nacoochee Gardens. They are currently offering the services of garden design, installation, and general maintenance. They will soon be ready for the retail sale of plants and garden decor items.
James will also be our on-site sign-language interpreter for the hotel, restaurant, and store. Spread the word to any of our Deaf community members to feel free to ask for James when they visit. He will be glad to assist in any of their communication needs. The sign name his former students gave him is the letter J touching the forearm between the hand and the elbow :)
Here are a few photographs of recent landscape work in the area.
